" A THING ABOUT ME is a short animated documentary film in which children talk about themselves, show us their favourite thing and tell us why it is important for them and how they relate to it. The favourite thing can be an object, an animal or a place. Children’s favourite things normally tie in closely with their emotions and are an ideal way to explore a very special aspect of childhood: imagination. The film whisks viewers away into a world of children’s ideas. The young viewers can identify with the child on the screen right away because most of them have a favourite thing themselves too. On another level, the film aims to encourage individuality. Differences are zoned in on deliberately – even though all children can empathise with what moves the young protagonists on the screen, they still have their own favourite thing with its own wonderful story and its own very special subjective value. Each of these things has magic powers and helps children to cope with their everyday situation, to get a sense of their own power or to retain an inner attachment to their homeland.
