作为西部边陲重镇的乌鲁木齐一个多民族聚集地这里孕育着与内地截然不同的文化与生活习惯。本片以采访本地生源高考生以及内地生源高考时为切入点讲述他们对外面更广阔世界的渴望，希望以高考的方式离开乌鲁木齐，追求新的生活；外来学子到达新疆之后对这种多民族融合文化的憧憬与好奇，也对新生活开始后出现的不适，以及在何时热爱上了这片土地做出了讲述。

Urumqi, as a place of strategic importance in the western border area, contains cultures and living habits which are totally different from those in mainland China. With the interview with local candidates for the college entrance examination and candidates for the college entrance examination in other places of China as the breakthrough point, this film narrates their thirst for the more extensive world outside. They wish to leave Urumqi through participating in the college entrance examination and pursue new life; it also narrates the longing for and the curiosity about such kind of culture with multi-ethnic fusion after students in other places come to Xinjiang, their discomfort when they just start new life here, and when they fall in love with this land.
