改编自余华短篇小说《我没有自己的名字》。来发是个双亲亡故无依无靠的小傻子。村里几个小痞子常常拿他做笑料，因为不论叫什么只要对他喊他都会答应。小痞子调笑要把狗送给他做夫妻，来发傻愣愣地接受了。来发和狗在相处中培养出了感情。有天来发看见小痞子们来他家抓狗还要他帮忙，来发拒绝了。小痞子叫了来发真名来发鬼使神差地帮他们抓到了狗。来发不能理解坐在床上想着以后再也不答应别人叫他“来发”了。

This film is adapted from I Don’t Have My Own Name, a short novel by Yu Hua. Lai Fa is a mentally handicapped boy, who lost both of his parents, and has no one to depend on. He is often teased by some ruffians in his village, because whatever name is called, he may always respond. The ruffians make fun of him by giving him a dog and forcing him to call the dog his wife. Silly Lai Fa accepts, and becomes closer with the dog. One day, when the ruffians go to Lai Fa's home to catch the dog, and ask for his help, Lai Fa refuses. But when they called Lai Fa's true name, he agrees and catches the dog for them without a reason. Failing to understand himself, Lai Fa sits on his bed thinking that he will never respond when other people call him "Lai Fa".
