因为发生漏油事故，渔民们正想办法处理。快乐的小男孩一心想成为美人鱼。本片围绕儿童时期性别认知的形成，以及抚养一个对自身性别不认同的孩子的问题展开。小男孩表达自我的方式不符合世俗。他不愿意成为世俗所定义的男孩或女孩。

The film is about a small fishing community struggles amidst an oil spill. Meanwhile, part of that community is a prepubescent and cheerful young boy struggling with his identity who finds comfort in his dreams of becoming a mermaid. Sa Saiyang Isla (In His Island) is a film which revolves arounf the idea of the formation of identity in childhoos and parenting a gender non-conforming child. The child protagonist of the film, Dinggoy expresses himself in ways that do not fit the rigid rules of gender conformity. He resists the binary by going againts the streotypical notion of what it means he o be a boy or girl.
