南传佛教是傣族人的传统信仰，男孩入寺做和尚接受教育的传统习俗已经持续近千年，但是这种教育模式现在在大陆义务教育的冲击下发生了改变。本片便以对云南西双版纳一座缅寺一年的观察展示了这种变化，从春天到冬天，从节日到日常，传统教育日渐荒废，小和尚逐渐离开，大佛爷最终还俗，寺庙从十五个和尚到最后只有一个想还俗而不得的和尚留守，没有批判，也没有颂扬，只是带着伤感静静地观察这种改变…… Southern Buddhism is the traditional belief of Dai people. The traditional custom of boys entering temples as monks to receive education has lasted for nearly a thousand years, but this education mode has changed under the impact of compulsory education in mainland China. This film shows this change with one year's observation of a wat in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. From spring to winter, from festivals to daily life, traditional education is becoming more and more abandoned, the little monks gradually leave, the Buddha finally returns to vulgarity, and the temple from fifteen monks to the last monk who wants to return to vulgarity remains behind.
